It’s been a sticky few days, with many of us struggling to get motivated in the heat. We spoke to women’s fitness specialist and founder of MAMAWELL, Rosie Stockley, on her top five tips for exercising this summer.

Rosie is known for her holistic and intelligent approach to training the body and the individual needs of each woman as she guides towards fitness goals with patience, expertise and passion. Rosie notably trains Vogue Williams, Lauren Pope, Binky Feltstead, Louise Roe & Dr Zoe Williams and founded The MAMAWELL Method - a bespoke workout program for pre and post natal women.

ONE

Figure out when the best time of day to workout might be and get it scheduled then so you don’t get caught out. Try and avoid the hottest time from 11am - 3pm. Early morning or later afternoon is best.

TWO

Keep cool in shorts and vests and don’t forget a cap and sunglasses if you think you’ll be in direct sunlight for a while. Even better, try and find a shady spot.

THREE

Keep your fluid intake high - this means definitely sip regularly throughout the workout and up the amount you consume afterwards and keep it going throughout the day. If you notice you’re urinating less than usual you may be dehydrated.

FOUR

Pregnant and postnatal women in particular need to keep their fluids high. If you’re breastfeeding you’re providing for the baby as well as nourishing yourself, so you really need to double up on your water intake. Herbal teas are also great but be careful of too much caffeine as it can be quite dehydrating.

FIVE

Take extra breaks in your workout if you feel yourself getting overheated or lightheaded, and maybe stop altogether if you feel dizzy. It can be quite quick to suddenly overheat, so watch out for symptoms through your workout. Pregnant women should always notice if they’re short of breath or dizzy, and it’s not advised to overheat the body at this time - so take extra care. Longer breaks and sub-maximal effort are advised.
